Pemba Red Ganzenhoef

Suriname – SR044A
Composition: Clay
Colour: Red
Shape: Shaped

In a number of countries all over the world, soil eating is a common cultural, spiritual or healing practice. In particular, this tradition is present in Suriname. Apart from being an important part of Winti, Pemba (or Pimba) is an intrinsic component of the culture, as people often eat it as a snack. Especially, Pimba is often consumed by (pregnant) women. Creamy, earthy, fine grit, natural edible shaped clay, lightly smoked, with a hint of sour. This is the authentic Pimba, a treasured secret recipe from Suriname. This sample was offered to us by Ielyj Ivgi who obtained it on a market in Ganzenhoef, Amsterdam.

Reviews

  1. Foamy at first, but then very grainy and crunchy. It is very flavourful. Smoky aftertaste. Minority of it doesn’t melt. But majority does. Aftertaste is bitter. The cloud of dust in your mouth
