Pemba Ball White

Suriname – SR047A
Composition: Clay
Colour: White
Shape: Shaped

In a number of countries all over the world, soil eating is a common cultural, spiritual or healing practice. In particular, this tradition is present in Suriname. Apart from being an important part of Winti, Pemba (or Pimba) is an intrinsic component of the culture, as people often eat it as a snack. Especially, Pimba is often consumed by (pregnant) women. Creamy, earthy, fine grit, natural edible shaped clay, lightly smoked, with a hint of sour. This is the authentic Pimba, a treasured secret recipe from Suriname. This sample was gifted to the Museum of Edible Earth by one of its fans. According to them this clay comes from Moengo.

  1. Creamy. Or more soft than creamy. You can add water to it and spread it on the bread. And then it becomes a bit sticky. It is not strange. If clay is wet, it is sticky.

Didn’t everyone ate play-doh as kid? It was salty
