The Kessak Clay originates from Uzbekistan, but is sometimes produced in Ukraine. It is commonly used for cosmetic purposes but also eaten as food supplement. It is often a very salty clay, and is known for being addictive.
This sample was found in a traditional herbal shop in Angren, Uzbekistan. The shop also sells Kessak clay for eating. In a short interview with me he compared the desire to eat clay with drug addiction. He told that there is a high demand for Kessak, but does not eat it himself.
