This sample was purchased from an online webshop named Earth’s Clay Store, based in Great Britain, selling edible soils from all continents. Cambridge chalk joined the collection of the Museum of Edible Earth in November 2020. The price of 500 grams was around €20.
Cambridge chalk is one of the rare edible samples to be found in the United Kingdom within the earth-eating community. At the same time, it seems to be a rather known chalk worldwide as it can be found in various online webshops. Originating in the Cherry Hinton Chalk Pits, this chalk comes from an environment where the wildlife has thrived thanks to its chalky surroundings.
Additionally to the poor diversity of edible soils in Great Britain, the founder of Earth’s Clay Store, Mandiasa Mayne argues that there are also few platforms selling edible earth across the country. This was the reason why they opened their webshop in 2017, with the aim “to provide top quality, natural clays, chalks and slate pencils from around the world” and “to become one of the first companies to provide variety to their customers.” Mandisa Mayne used to be a science teacher. Her successful business of selling edible clays and chalks online is nearly matching her previous salary after changing careers.

Die Kreide aus Cambridge ist eine der besten Erden die ich je probiert habe. Die Kruste ist sehr knusprig. Der Geschmack sehr kreidig. Als würde man eine Schulkreide essen. Im Abgang ist die Kreide sehr Rauchig. Sehr zu empfehlen.
