In a number of countries all over the world, soil eating is a common cultural, spiritual or healing practice. In particular, this tradition is present in Suriname. Apart from being an important part of Winti, Pemba (or Pimba) is an intrinsic component of the culture, as people often eat it as a snack. Especially, Pemba is often consumed by (pregnant) women. Creamy, earthy, fine grit, natural edible shaped clay, lightly smoked, with a hint of sour. This is the authentic Pemba, a treasured secret recipe from Suriname.
This sample originates in the Pemba production site of Moengo, Suriname.

Very delicious! Extremely delicious. A bit salty. A hint of sweetness. A bit of umami. It is nice to chew on it.

The powder was smooth and melting in my mouth. I see why people eat this as a ball because when I put pieces in my mouth, I can actually taste something more than a simple soil. I actually enjoyed how it melts. Perhaps a bit sour?

粒子が細かいので、口触りがなめらかでジャリジャリ感がなく食べやすい。ラムネのような口溶け。
脂質があるように感じ、クリーミー。
最初に強めに酸味を感じて、次に渋み、塩気などの味が感じられた。
どういう言葉で書いていいのかわからない、独特な異国の味。粘り気があり肌や身体に良さそう。
