Museum of Edible Earth and Compost as Superfood

Compost as Superfood is an immersive exhibition by masharu, presented as part of the Museum of Edible Earth at KONTEJNER. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the cultural and sensory dimensions of earth-eating and composting, with roots in artistic research and lived experience. With the displays, Compost as Superfood and the Museum of Edible Earth  opens a space for tasting soil, sharing reflections, and rethinking our relationships with the environment. At the same time, challenging conventional ideas of nourishment and waste.

The Museum of Edible Earth is a project born out of a personal desire and eagerness to share with others the different relationships humans can have with soil. Through the exhibition of  samples, selected specifically for consumption, the viewer’s are invited to reimagine their relationship to soil and open themselves up to its consumption.

“Compost as Superfood” explores the creation of human made earth like substances designed for consumption. The project highlights composts potential as both a sustainable resource and a nutrient rich superfood supplement. It  presents critical reflection on the safety, cultural complexities, and environmental implications of consuming organic materials; encouraging viewers to rethink the evolving relationship between humans and the earth. The project also inspires the visitors to reconsider the future of consumption, understand the art of composting, and its role in restoring soil health.

As part of the exhibition, masharu also hosted a workshop that invited the public to actively participate and think about soil consumption alongside an exprimental sensory journey with earth samples collected around the world.

Both  the Museum of Edible Earth and Compost as Superfood  challenges conventional ideas of consumption, sustainability, and our relationship with organic matter.  together, these projects provoke critical reflection on how humans engage with the Earth—whether by consuming its raw minerals or reimagining waste as nourishment—ultimately blurring the lines between sustenance, sustainability, and cultural tradition.
